Our background is like many small small fellowships, we were in mainstream church then felt the direction/leadership was wrong so pulled out individually and met together in different houses with the intention that we each look for a new church. We were dubbed Upper Room because we met in an attic in one of our houses.
Many found new churches but a small number (five) stayed together as a house church and have been together for about 17 years.
One of the first things we were lead to do was to go back to basics, 'The Word'. We tested everything by the word including all the songs we had been, and were, still singing. After spending several months going through all our song sheets and overheads we threw out those that were out of line with scripture.
The next wonderful thing to happen, and this was not to replace the extracted songs, was that we decided to learn chunks of scripture we were studying to "hide it in our hearts". After several weeks it was proving to be a struggle just to memorize simple sentences never mind whole passages, so it was decided to set them to music.
After 11 years we have almost 100 songs, sometimes a verse, other times whole chapters, virtually all locked away in our memories.
We have regular worship nights where people from other churches meet with us in an evening of singing scripture to the Lord.
We have quite a few churches in the midlands who invite us a couple of time a year to take a service, where again we share the songs in worship and praise.
It is an amazing experience to sing The Lords Word back to Him, knowing that every Word is perfect, honoring and glorifying to Him.
We have produced 6 CDs so far, doing the playing, singing, recording, copying and printing, (so they are not highly professional) which go all over the world and we have heard many wonderful testimonials about them. The cost of the CDs and our worship evenings are covered by ourselves and the CDs are free. Gods word should be free and freely available, we are blessed to be doing this.
We support Israel in every possible way we can and many of the songs show that.
I hope this gives you an idea of what we are about, to Glorify the Lord. |
